36x56 1820 Timberframe barn in Surry, Maine

by Cynthia Tolbert
(Surry, Maine)

Circa 1820 2 story timberframe barn with hand hewn timbers. Upright posts 10"x10"x 20' approximately. One of the cross beams spans the entire 36'width. There are 4 bays on each side with stairs and a loft over the right 3rd of the barn. The shingles are deteriorating on the outside of the barn but the inside planks are in good condition. The floor boards are heavy 2"x10"x12'. One of the sills has rotted and one of the corner posts will need to be replaced. The roof is shingle and needs to be replaced.

I had a recent evaluation of the barn done and was told that the wood is primarily white pine and is in very good condition. I would like to see this fine old barn taken down and reused in some capacity. I am offering it free to anyone who will remove it in entirety. The timberframe alone is worth the effort!I would like to have it removed by spring 2021.

Feel free to call or email for more information.

2900 miles to Idaho
by: Mick Thomas

I'll be tracking this. White Pine is the state tree for Idaho (I work for the Dept of Lands). It would take me two weeks to disassemble and then cost about $4K to have the barn transported on a flat bed 18 wheeler to my site though. Hopefully someone closer can make use of it!
