Barn near Lincolnton, NC being sold to support local missions

by Richard Baucom
(Lincolnton, NC USA)

In 2014, a group of church members from McKendree United Methodist Church of Lincolnton, NC went on a mission to the Salkehatchie region of South Carolina to help repair houses and other dwellings for those who are less fortunate.

Upon returning several members who went realized there is a local need here in the Lincolnton area so the Serving Grace Team of McKendree UMC was formed helping with various projects in the homes of fellow church members and friends.

The Hoyle family has this old barn which has seen its better days which needs to be removed so they have graciously donated the barn along with 2 other buildings as well as their contents as a project with all of the proceeds from salvageable items going to the mission.

The idea is to raise money from these items for another trip to the Salkehatchie region again so everything in these pictures is available. In fact there are several items not pictured that are also available.

The barn appears to have been dormant since the mid 1980s and still there are plenty of items to be removed so this is an ongoing project.

The barn was built prior to the 1920s and the exterior boards have machine square cut nails. I figure it to be roughly 50 x 50 but have not actually measured it. It is collapsing with parts of the roof and loft that have given way along with part of the left side exterior wall.

The loft floor is tongue and groove planks probably salvaged from an older house from the 1800s of which a lot of the boards have rotted on the exterior sides from where the roof has given way. Still there are enough boards which should yield for a large room that can be re-purposed.

The interior boards and beams are still in great shape and could make for a good backbone to build another barn from. The exterior boards are plentiful even though a third of the left exterior wall has fallen.

The barn could be restored but it would require a lot of work. To schedule an up close viewing, please contact me. The mission team is offering the barn as-is for the best offer.

Hi Richard. How is this project going? I just saw it today. I am in Pumpkin Center. Just curious. I have some land and am thinking of a structure of all reclaimed material.

email [email protected] The underscore is important.

Thanks, Brent
