Old 40' x 60' (approx.) oak barn Houston, Missouri
by Marcia McKay
Barn located 100 miles east of Springfield, MO. Or 154 miles southwest of St. Louis, MO.
From the information we have gathered the barn looks to have been built around 1882.
The barn is made of oak, possibly white oak. We were told that the hand hewn beams are made of white oak. We were told that one of the beams in the barn is approximately 100 feet long.
The barn is about 40’W x 60’ long (footprint of the barn). One of the photos shows my husband standing in front of the barn (he is 6’ tall so you can use that as a point of reference in sizing the barn).
The barn has a hay loft. This barn was originally used as a dairy barn. The barn has a tin roof.
The barn is being sold in, “as is” condition. The barn is standing, however, boards on one side of the need replacing. They were broken due to a renter having housed hogs in the barn.
The barn will require moving as no land is being sold with the barn. Sixty days are allowed for the dismantling and moving of the barn and all materials.
We expect the buyer to clean up the site after the barn is taken down. The site is to be cleaned of non-salvageable wood and building materials.
We are looking to sell the barn to someone who is in the business of buying barns. The barn will need to be taken down by someone experienced and insured, salvage or demolition experts.
If you have any interest in the barn please call Marcia McKay at 913-206-1840.
